TERRIBLE accident between a freight train and a bus in Bangkok.. 8 dead so far, many injured.

Day of national mourning to be scheduled soon.

This accident happened at the Rama IX and Asoke-Phetchaburi intersection.

The almost tragic news is, I was IN that area at the time, not within sight or danger of being involved, but only a couple blocks away, and could see the smoke rising behind me as I drove away. The location is near the Terminal 21 mall tower, and it was a VERY busy day on the roads.

So far, no explanation as to why the bus was on the tracks at the time, or of any questions of competency of any of the involved drivers…

The train involved was only a freight train, luckily, NOT one of the BTS passenger trains that run throughout Bangkok. But total dead has been quoted as 8 people, confirmation that they were affected while riding the bus or the resulting truck fire that occurred after the accident.

Several civilian cars and motorbikes caught fire as fuel spilled onto the roadway at the scene.

Our hearts go out to the friends and families of the people affected, and hope that all injured recover well.
